What does the Scrum Product Owner training course cover?

The Product Owner represents the client in a Scrum team. This is an all-new role which is vital to the proper functioning of a Scrum team. In the Scrum Product Owner training course, you’ll learn how to impress your clients and stakeholders with good project results in a short amount of time. A Product Owner’s top priority is to get the best results for the client. After taking the Product Owner training, you’ll be able fulfil this role in a professional manner. Result of the two-day Product Owner training course:
  • Feel confident in performing the Product Owner role.
  • Acquire the knowledge you need to carry out the Product Owner role properly.
  • Gain insights into the work of a Product Owner through practical simulations.
  • Immediately increase the value you offer to your organisation.
  • Walk away inspired by our trainers’ experiences and practical examples (from non-IT environments).
  • Be well prepared for the scrum.org PSPO I exam
The two-day Product Owner training course is structured as follows: Day 1:
  • What is Agile? This unit provides a general introduction to the world of agile working. This puts Scrum and the Product Owner role in the proper context.
  • The Scrum framework. Before getting into the details of the Product Owner role, this course takes a look at the Scrum framework. Our trainers enjoy a wealth of practical experience, which they use to bring the theory to life.
  • The Product Owner role. The first day mainly covers the Product Owner role. We answer questions such as: What makes a good Product Owner? What skills do you need? How does the Product Owner work together with the Scrum Master? What are some of the most common pitfalls?
  • Developing a vision. To obtain results with the Scrum team that will satisfy the clients and other stakeholders, you need a vision. The Product Owner is responsible for developing this vision.
  • Because many people learn best by doing, we start the first day with a game that puts the theory into practice.
Day 2:
  • Product backlog. With Scrum, you no longer need extensive project planning. The most important document that the Product Owner manages is the product backlog. What exactly is the product backlog? How do you draft it? How do you set the right priorities?
  • Continuation of the game. The Product Owner game that you started on the first day continues on the second day.
  • ‘Release’ planning. In the past, you delivered a finished product at the end of the project. In a Scrum project, you deliver the results in batches. This provides clients with additional opportunities to offer feedback over the course of the project. The planning of these ‘releases’ is one of the Product Owner’s key tasks.
  • Mock exam. We use mock exams, available on scrum.org, to prepare you optimally for the exam. You also have the option to obtain an official certificate from scrum.org. Please see the Certification tab for further information.
Note: This course does not require any prior knowledge. Have you taken our basic course? If so, you’ll already be familiar with some of the training content.
